Data Practices

Last updated: July 20, 2026

Transparent details on what Smartic collects, why it helps you learn faster, and how you stay in control.

Overview

This Data Practices page is our plain-language Trust Center companion to the Privacy Policy. It explains what information Smartic may use, why it helps the product work well, and how you can request deletion.

In one sentence Smartic may retain previous searches and recommendation history associated with your account to help deliver a more personalized experience, improve recommendation quality, reduce repeated processing, and continuously enhance Smartic for all users.

Why it is collected

Save you time

History and preferences help Smartic feel consistent and reduce repeated work for similar requests.

Improve quality

Aggregated and de-identified usage information may help us improve reliability and consistency for everyone.

Protect the service

Authentication and diagnostics help prevent abuse and keep accounts safe.

Operate plans fairly

Usage statistics support allowances and plan features when they apply to your account.

When it is collected

  • At sign-in — authentication information
  • When you run Smartic on YouTube search — search context and recommendation-related information
  • While you use the extension — preferences, usage statistics, and limited diagnostics
  • When you contact us — the contents of your message

How long it may be retained

We keep information for as long as needed to provide Smartic, improve the product, maintain security, and meet legal obligations. Retention is not “everything forever.” When data is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.

Aggregated and de-identified usage information may be retained longer to improve overall product quality, reliability, and consistency.

Who can access it

Access is limited to systems and authorized people who need it to operate, support, or secure Smartic. Service providers who help us run the product may process information only as needed for those roles.

We do not sell personal information.

How users can request deletion

Email hello@smartic.dev from the address associated with your account, or use the Contact page and choose a privacy topic. We will verify your request and respond within a reasonable time.

Some limited records may remain when required for security, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.

How authentication works

Smartic uses Google Sign-In. You authenticate with Google; Smartic receives the identity details needed to recognize your account and keep your session secure. We do not receive your Google password.

Why extension permissions are required

Chrome permissions allow Smartic to appear on supported YouTube pages, show insights in context, authenticate your account, and store limited local state. They are not a license to monitor unrelated websites.

How Smartic improves recommendations over time

Smartic analyzes relevant, publicly available information associated with videos to generate useful recommendations. Over time, account-associated history and aggregated product insights may help Smartic feel more consistent and helpful—without implying that every recommendation is manually reviewed by a person.
