Introduction
Smartic (“we,” “us,” or “our”) provides a Chrome extension and related services that help you discover useful YouTube videos before you invest time watching them. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices you have.
We collect only what is reasonably necessary to provide and improve Smartic. We want this policy to be clear, human, and specific—so you can make an informed decision about using our product.
Information we collect
Depending on how you use Smartic, we may collect the following categories of information:
Account information
When you create or sign in to an account, we receive basic identity details needed to authenticate you and maintain your session—such as a unique account identifier and profile details provided through Google Sign-In.
Authentication information
We process sign-in tokens and session-related data so you can stay signed in securely while using the extension.
Search & recommendation history
When you use Smartic on YouTube search results, we may process and retain information related to that request—such as your search context, video identifiers associated with results you review, and the ratings or recommendations Smartic shows you.
Product preferences & plan usage
We store preferences and plan-related usage (for example, monthly allowance counters) so the product can work as expected and show you remaining capacity where applicable.
Extension & diagnostic information
We may collect limited technical and diagnostic details—such as extension version, error signals, or performance indicators—to keep Smartic reliable and fix issues.
Communications
If you email us, we receive the content of your message and the address you use so we can respond.
Information we do not collect
- We do not sell personal information.
- We do not monitor browsing on websites unrelated to Smartic’s supported YouTube experience.
- We do not ask for your Google password. Sign-in happens through Google’s own flow.
- We do not require phone numbers or physical addresses to use the core product.
Google Sign-In & authentication
Smartic uses Google Sign-In so you can access your account without creating a separate password with us. Google provides us with the identity information needed to recognize you and protect your session.
Your use of Google Sign-In is also subject to Google’s own terms and privacy policy. You can sign out of Smartic at any time from the extension.
Extension permissions
Chrome requires extensions to declare permissions. Smartic requests only the permissions needed to:
- Work on supported YouTube pages
- Display ratings, recommendations, and takeaways in context
- Authenticate your account and sync plan/usage status
- Store limited local state so the extension feels responsive
We do not use permissions to read your unrelated browsing history across the web.
Usage information, search history & recommendation history
Smartic may retain previous searches, previously recommended videos, product preferences, and extension usage statistics associated with your account. We do this to help deliver a more personalized experience, improve recommendation quality, reduce repeated work, and continuously enhance Smartic for everyone.
Not every interaction is kept forever, and not every action creates a long-term record. Retention depends on what is needed to operate and improve the service, as described below.
Analytics & cookies
We may use limited analytics or similar technologies to understand how the website and product are used at a high level—for example, which pages are visited or whether key flows complete successfully.
Our marketing website is primarily static. Where cookies or similar technologies are used, they support basic functionality, security, or aggregated measurement—not advertising profiles built from your YouTube watching habits.
Third-party services
We rely on trusted providers to operate Smartic, such as authentication partners, cloud hosting, and email delivery. These providers process information only as needed to help us run the service, under appropriate contractual and security expectations.
YouTube and Google remain separate services. Your use of YouTube continues to be governed by their terms and policies.
Data retention
We retain account, usage, and related records for as long as needed to provide Smartic, maintain security, meet legal obligations, and resolve disputes. Aggregated or de-identified information may be kept longer to improve overall product quality, reliability, and consistency.
When information is no longer needed for these purposes, we take steps to delete or de-identify it.
Your rights & choices
- Sign out of the extension at any time
- Uninstall the Chrome extension to stop local collection by Smartic
- Request access, correction, or deletion of account data by contacting us
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable privacy laws. Email hello@smartic.dev and we will respond within a reasonable time.
Account deletion
You may request deletion of your Smartic account and associated personal data by contacting hello@smartic.dev or using our contact page. We may retain limited information when required for security, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.
Children’s privacy
Smartic is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
International users
Smartic may be operated from locations different from where you live. If you use Smartic from another country, your information may be processed in regions where we or our providers operate, subject to applicable law and appropriate protections.
Security
We use HTTPS and industry-standard security practices where applicable to help protect information in transit and at rest. Access to user information is limited to people and systems that need it to operate Smartic.
No online service can guarantee perfect security. Please keep your Google account secure and your browser up to date. Learn more on our Security page.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. For material changes, we may provide additional notice in the product or on this site.
